The 5th Bristol St Luke’s Scout Group is one of the oldest groups in Bristol.
It all began somewhere around 1907–08. We can’t be sure of the exact date - it is believed that the group originated from the drum and bugle band which was formed to raise money for the building of St Anne’s Church which was completed around 1906.
The first Scoutmaster at the 5th was Mr Fredric Gross and we are almost certain that he was the founder member. In 1928 the Scout Group became attached to St. Luke’s Church, as it still is to this day.
Over the years the 5th Bristol Scouts have been a big part of the local community providing the opportunity for thousands of boys to experience scouting. Some stayed for a year or two, others for much longer, but no matter how long they stayed I am sure they learned many a skill, made good friends and had a great deal of fun.
If you would like your son to experience scouting at the 5th, please This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Or if you were once a member and want to put something back in return for all that scouting gave you, then why not come and help us? Even if you have had nothing to do with scouting but feel you want to help the youth of Brislington, please get in touch.
Our HQ is The Wigwam, Brookside Road, Brislington, Bristol. Our own website is www.stlukes.escouts.net.
Activity
Our parish directory is woefully out of date. The last one was produced almost four years ago. An up to date directory is vital, so we need to know that your information is correct. If you have started coming to St Luke’s since 2006, or have changed any of your details since then, please let us know. Over the coming weeks there will be a form at the back of the church for you to enter your details. Since we last updated the directory, a great many more people have acquired email addresses. It would be great to have emails as well as phone numbers, so please leave details if you can. Email
